"Great Day of his Wrath" - John Martin

Do you know what it feels like to have your city fall into a massive hole and you go down with it? Well the people in John Martin’s painting do. John Martin demonstrates the ability to portray this apoctiliptic landscape with vibrant colors and sweeping brush strokes. In order to understand this beautiful piece of work you must focus on the fine detail within this magnificent piece of work.

The Great David’s Wrath is puts into the viewer’s mind a lot of destruction and death. I get this impression because there is a massive hole that everything seems to be going into; there is burning cities falling into this hellish pit of doom. There is a lot of contrast with the different colors and the way the sky seems to be falling. To me, it’s the ultimate death, the ultimate sacrifice. In a way, the whole painting seems to be flowing together. I think this because I see all the destruction and pain in the picture.

Martin effectively uses the elements of vibrant color and balance in his horrific landscape. Martin seems to make the painting with a big, introverted triangle, like a funnel. The burning cities and crumbling mountains seem to be going down this inverted triangle. At the bottom of the triangle is a dark, hellish pit. The picture is also divided into separate thirds. In the upper right/left there is a mountain collapsing and destruction of cities. In the lower right/left there are people in agony, falling to there death.

He is trying to point out the problems in the world, and also the strength of Mother Nature. Also, he is trying to say that human kind has not been good and it looks like God is taking his anger out on the Earth. Next, the painting makes me feel bad for the world because of all the death and destruction that is going on in the painting.

Martin’s landscape showcases his ability to portray the suffering of humanity while using solid artistic technique. John Martin can make even death beautiful. In my opinion, The Great Day of his Wrath disserves to be shown in the Tate gallery in London England.

"Mambrino" - George Stubbs

George Stubbs is a famous artist best know for his work with horse. Stubbs makes the horse look powerful and shows it's natural beauty. Mambrino is a strong racehorse with the strength and the heart in its soul. To understand the painting the painting the viewer has to understand the depth of the painter.

The depth of the painting shows how the subject is acting or feeling in the picture. The sky is a light blue, with white puffy clouds. The horse is white, muscular horse with a dirty white coat. There is a green, grassy hill in the background of the picture. There is a dark forest green in the picture with brown colored twigs.

Two of the artistic elements that make Stubbs work so effusive are his use of the balance and color. There is a marvelous balance between darkness and light, particularly between the horse and the background. There are also three balanced triangles in the picture that focus on Mambrino and add depth to the image. Stubbs’ work is highly realistic. He shows the fine muscles of the horse.

The Stubbs’ painting shows that the horse has a raw power of the horse and talent of the painter. It is an amazing picture of a strong and masculine horse. It is more than a painting it is a testament of the soul of a champion.

Stubbs mastery of the brush makes this painting beautiful Stubbs show the heart and soul of the horse in this painting the world would be a less beautiful if not for the pure betty of the horse.

"The Tetons Snake River" - Ansel Adams

Ansel Adams might be known as the best photographer in the freeborn world, if I’m not too bold. If he is,then he definitely has then photos to prove it. In So, why Ansel Adams is the most talented photographer in the world possibly the universe? I will tell you. Ansel used his own zone system in this and many other photos. The zone system allows the photograph to consistency control the tonal range in the negative. This allows the photograph control over his characteristics or black and white film. Ansel Adams shows the true nature of the landscape in his photos and how nature looks undisturbed and untouched by people. It look’s peasful and all it is the only thing that is wroth looking at it makes everything pale and unacceptable. Ansel was and will always be the best photographer that I have ever seen Ansel Adams photo The Tetons Snake River is an example of the grate photograph Ansel is.

The photo contrasts the winding river and the contrasting hills with the concealing clouds I think

that Ansel did an amazing job. The picture is sharp, the light is incredible at showing the butte of

the mountains and the curving river. The hint of light in the corner that travels the mountain

side. The fading trees in the distance. To your right the darkness and fading mountain face. The

photograph is an outstanding work of art. The photo that you see the before you the best no not

the best it is the only photo that tells you what live should be. To understand that Ansel was

trying to tell you is the mister of the photo. In other word’s I have on clue what he is telling you.

worlds can not distribe that is telling you well they can I gust can’t think of them. I guest I can’t

tell you that to think and if you think that the is only good well that is ok with me it’s not like I

take the photo.

"Triumph of Death" - Pieter Brueghel

The painting Triumph of Death shows an army of skeletons attacking a town on their rampage through it. The Triumph of Death is a scene of horror, death and the end of the world at the hands of the dead who spare no one they go through the town. Death comes at the time it chooses and you can’t stop it so it, is best just to live out the rest of the time you have in peace and harmony. Pieter Bruegle's painting, the Triumph of Death makes you think of how fragile life is.

The Triumph of Death is a scene of the end of the world through Pieter Bruegle’s eyes. The king is dying and skeletons are killing all they see or herding them into a cart. Most of the building in the painting are on fire or in ruins as the skeletons spared despair and death. Another town is burning on the upper left hand side of the painting. On the upper right hand side, a man is being beheaded and another man is being hanged. On the lower left hand side the King is dying as skeletons steal gold and silver. On the right hand side a couple is just sitting and playing music to each other as skeletons attack and kill everyone else. Pieter Bruegle’s painting the Triumph of Death is the one of the strangest paintings that I have ever seen. The Triumph of Death gives the viewer a sense of mortality. The painting makes you see that just as quickly as we can build a society, it can be destroyed by our own greed.

The colors of the sky show that darkness seems to be spreading over the land. In the Upper left corner, the red sky represents fire and that Hell has decided to come to Earth. The fire creates a dark smoke, which spreads across the skyline. The painting gives the viewer a sense of tension, horror and chaos as the town is attacked. A sense of reality is falling a part and case is taking over. In the painting no one is safe.

The artist shows the vore that humans are farrago beings that can by betted else. Little bit of hope in the darkest of nights. That death is not the end of the road. The young couples show it is not always the best to fight against the inedible. The painting is showing that eventually we will find an enemy that can not be hurt by our weapons. As humans push our away thought please which we have no knowledge of these please were going to gent our self into trouble which we can not beat.

The Triumph of Death is showing that the world end at the hands of the die. So in the end no one can fight death so it is best to enjoy the time you have on this world. Plus death is not always the end. To me the Triumph of Death is a scary painting but it is interesting painting.

"Reptiles" - M.C. Escher

M.C.Escher was known for his mind twisting and confusing artwork.

One of M.C.Escher's works was Reptiles. The picture was interesting because it was 3D, then went to 2D, then 3D.

The alligators seen to emerge from the flat, 2D picture and become 3D creatures, then merge witch the picture once again. There are many things in this image, like a lot of detail. The main things in this picture are the alligators that are circling the picture. The alligators were going in and out of the panting. The alligators are going up and down books and wood, walking on paper and down a bowl, around cigarettes and crawling on a cube and matches.

There is an old book in the corner, and a cactus in the bottom corner. There is also a cube, bottle, a glass, matches and cigarettes, rocks, paper and drawings just some detail.

Escher’s picture means to me death and rebirth. Alligators are going in and out of the picture. When they leave the picture, they are reborn. When they go into the picture, they are dying. Alligators are moving up and down things.

This design is confusing with a lot of detail. This picture means to me life and rebirth. This is a great piece of art because it is cool and it makes you think and is interesting.

"Young Woman Sewing in a Garden" - Mary Cassat

Have you ever looked at a painting and have it capture you? In Mary Cassatt’s painting, Young Woman Sewing in a Garden, she is trying to show innocence. In order to understand the painting and her message, you must first be able to describe the painting.

There are many things to see in Mary Cassatt’s painting. There is a beautiful young lady sewing in a garden. Wearing a plain dress on a warm day. A very proper, elegant, and innocent lady in the 1800’s, she is sitting and sewing amongst the many orange flowers. She appears very concentrated on her project.

Cassatt uses the elements of balance and color very well in her painting. The girl in Cassatt’s painting is in the central triangle using balanced and harmonious cool colors. Cassatt uses cool colors by using heavy shades of green and off whites. The green being the trees and the bushes in the background, and the off white in her dress. Amongst the cool colors, Cassatt included splash of warm colors by putting orange in the flowers gathered around the girl. The girl is in the central triangle and the background turns into two separate triangles. The path follows our natural line of sight.

There is a sense of peace in Cassatt’s painting. The girl is sewing in a garden rather than a factory during the Industrial Revolution. Cassatt seems to be saying that there are great differences between the upper class and those that had to work in factories. This young woman in the painting is very blessed because she has not been affected by the Industrial Revolution in a negative way.

I like Cassatt’s painting because there is such a sense of being elegant and the fact that she seems as if she can’t be disturbed. Innocence is being shown in Cassatt’s painting with the young woman sewing. This is a marvelous piece of art that deserves to be exhibited in galleries.
